This summer is shaping up to be yet another winner, so if you’ve not got anything planned yet then now is the perfect time to get your diary out and start planning.

The Games of Remembrance

The Christmas Day Armistice is an event that has gone down in history as an exceptional moment of peace-making between two sides that were in the middle of a bitter World War. 100 years later this event will be replayed by members of the armed forces from both England and Germany thanks to the assistance of the Military FA and Nottingham Forest FC. The games will take place on 8th November and will also engage soldiers from German and English rehab charities.

Armed Forces Day

The 29th June is the date of this year’s Armed Forces Day which will see over 300 events taking place in the UK, as well as a number of other events across Europe. Expect fun packed family-days, heartfelt tributes to our Armed Forces (past and present), as well as numerous ceremonial events. Head to the Armed Forces Day website to check out all the events that are taking place across the country and make sure to support your local day!

The War and Peace Revival

For those who have a misty-eyed nostalgia for the days of wartime Britain the War and Peace Revival offers a huge range of exciting events, sights and sounds. Over a jam-packed five day schedule visitors will be able to encounter historical enactors, vintage cars, browse vintage market and experience what it might have been like to have lived during that that time. In addition to live music and shows, you’ll also be able to meet historical authors, see awesome flyovers and take part in a Veteran’s Service.

Walking Home for Christmas

Set up in 2010, Walking With The Wounded is a charity that supports vulnerable veterans and finds a way to re-integrate them back into society and regain their independence. They hold a number of events throughout the year to promote their cause, including the festive Walking Home for Christmas. This annual campaign encourages groups of colleagues to walk home from work during the Christmas season to raise awareness for those that have to walk alone every day.

Stirling Military Show

Take a trip up to Scotland to take part in an afternoon of family fun at the Stirling Military Show. Highlights of this year’s show include The Red Devils, an official parachute display team of the British Army (which comprises a 15 strong team of military men), Kennedy Cupcakes (a 40s/50s inspired dance troupe) and even a garrison of Star Wars stormtroopers! The event is absolutely free, so there’s no excuse not to make the trip!
